The reality of 2DS screws.

2DS screws aren’t all the same. There are Phillips #00 screws, JIS screws (which strip easily if you use a Phillips head instead of the correct JIS bit), and even Tri-wing screws on some models. The motherboard mounting screws measure at approximately 1.33mm in diameter — somewhere between standard M1.2 and M1.4. There’s no official screw size chart from Nintendo. Finding the right replacement screws means digging through forum threads, guessing measurements, or buying random screw lots and hoping they fit.

Compatibility: Original Nintendo 2DS only. Not compatible with New 2DS XL — the two models use different screw sizes and configurations.

A note on disassembly: The original 2DS is considered one of the easier Nintendo handhelds to work on, but the screws are delicate. Using the wrong screwdriver bit is the number one cause of stripped screws. We recommend using a proper J00 or Phillips #00 screwdriver and taking your time. If a screw feels stuck, stop and check your bit — forcing it will only make things worse.

Installation tip: Pay attention to screw placement during reassembly. Unlike some captive screws that stay attached to the panel, many 2DS screws come completely out during disassembly. Keep them organized. Use a small container or magnetic mat to track which screw goes where.
